WREM Literacy Group, Inc.

WREM YouthBuild

The WREM YouthBuild program is a two year program, where young high school dropouts between the ages of 16 and 24 can train for job opportunities in construction by building affordable housing under the WREM CHDO Housing Program. Simultaneously, the participants will work toward earning their GED.

While in training, the participants live in a shared-living environment, a positive mini-community of peers committed to each other’s success. Students are paid a stipend for their participation, and in addition, may earn AmeriCorps education awards through homebuilding and other community service. They are trained in both horizontal and vertical construction.

Upon existing the program, the participants can either enter college, or enter into the workforce with skills for successfully working in residential construction. There is also an option to pursue higher education while working. This program is set in Prairie View, TX.

Currently, the program is on hold until funding is acquired.
